Whittier is one gateway to the bustling city of Anchorage.
Whittier is a small community that still enjoys a near wilderness state.

Another gateway into Anchorage and the national parks of Alaska is Seward.
If you are a rail buff, the Alaska Railroads Coastal Classic route serving Seward and Anchorage is an exciting alternative to the highway.  Equally scenic, with the added excitement of a rail journey you board a classic passenger coach of the railroad in Anchorage or Seward. Wind through some beautiful, pristine scenery including Turnagain Arm, Placer River massive Skookum Glacier and Chugach National Forest.

Board a dayboat in Seward for a wildlife and glacier cruise in the "Denali" of marine wildlife - Kenai Fiords National Park.  This intimate six-hour daylight cruise provides maximum opportunity to see whales, se lions, otters, a massive tidewater glacier and the stunning beauty of the glacially carved cliffs of the park.  Continue on to Anchorage

Anchorage is the perfect jumping-off point for visits to the vast Denali National Park.  Rail service and motor coach service deliver you in classic comfort.  Pass glaciers, lakes, alpine tundra and towering peaks along the way.  History tours are available, motor coaches deliver you to Copper River or to Valdez and the Prince William Sound.  Dayboats can be taken from here and of course there is spectacular fishing in the area.  Alaska has more than 100,000 lakes.  Whale watching is popular.

If you get a chance to see Mount McKinley do so.
